- How did you get into health care philanthropy?
I have been a fundraiser in the Denver market for many, many years and my desire to work in health care philanthropy came from an intersection of a life experience that I had in a hospital coupled with my time volunteering in a hospital as a teenager, my professional fundraising experience, my desire to learn more about health care philanthropy, and my continual yearning to make my community a better place.
- Why did you choose to make health care philanthropy your career?
Well, fashion blogging didn’t exactly pay the bills (just kidding)
Actually, my journey has come full circle. I had boy/girl twins who were NICU babies, and my son was in the NICU for 5 months. Upon discharge, I asked what I could do for his care team because I had a such a tremendous amount of gratitude to those clinicians. They told me they were just happy he could go home. To me, I felt I needed to do something, and outside of the fancy pen and keychain I gave them, I knew I had to give back in some way. When I landed in this role, I knew I was right where I needed to be and the fact that I can help other grateful patients and their families is incredibly fulfilling.
- What has been the #1 factor in your career success so far?
Having terrific CEO’s along the way who have helped open doors for me as well as a wonderful Foundation President who is a great resource and is supportive of my growth and insatiable need to learn. I also have to say that other health systems philanthropy leads across the country have been kind, open, and willing to answer my numerous questions.
- What is your greatest passion and why?
My greatest passion is first and foremost, is my family including my husband and children, and secondly, my desire to continually make my community better. I really love that I can have discussions with community members about how to give back to make our community a better place. Our community hospitals are the nucleus of the communities and working with patients who are grateful and inspired by the work we do everyday is an amazing and heartwarming thing to see.
- What are your future aspirations?
I would like to lead a large, multihospital foundation and support the philanthropy work of a system.
