- How did you get into health care philanthropy?
I started my career as a human resources professional, with a background in sales and event planning. After an incredible experience working with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, I knew that I wanted to continue working with volunteers in a non-profit environment. After an interview for a volunteer management position, the hiring manager reached out to me about a fundraising position and that’s how it all started!
- Why did you choose to make health care philanthropy your career?
Every day, I feel inspired by the people who work in health care and the health care innovations that philanthropy makes possible. From the aspirations and accomplishments of world-class clinicians and researchers to the compassion and care of front line service providers, I know that donors trust us to ensure that their donations are making a long-lasting impact in the community. I’m proud that I’m able to connect donors to funding opportunities that align with their vision and values.
- What has been the #1 factor in your career success so far?
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” – credited to Roman philosopher, Seneca, and talk show host, Oprah Winfrey
I’ve always thought that I was just a lucky person, who’s fortunate to be surrounded by amazing individuals. Then a good friend shared this quote with me and I came to realize that there are three keys to success: surrounding yourself with good people, being prepared for any and all situations, and always keeping an open mind—this way, you are the creator of your own luck and, ultimately, your success.
- What is your greatest passion and why?
I am passionate about education and professional development. I find it most fulfilling when I can support someone else in achieving their goals. There is something wonderful about celebrating successes with someone who realizes their potential. I believe that the best thing that we can do as human beings is to build each other up, because the stronger others are, the stronger we are together.
- What are your future aspirations?
In my future, I see myself in a senior leadership position where my team and I are thriving in a happy and healthy workplace that values our talents, skills, and experience while giving us the opportunity to align our passions with our work.
