As the pandemic set in, Caitlin developed a full slate of town hall programming to give Maine Medical Center donors a look into the hospital’s response, as well as transforming the in-person event schedule into a virtual platform, introducing elements that continue to be used today. As a result of Caitlin's leadership of the NEXT 150 Public Launch event, within three months of the event taking place the team at MMC had raised almost $15 million to exceed its dollar goal. Many of these gifts are attributed to the outstanding experience donors had at the virtual launch event. Thanks to Caitlin's work on the NEXT 150 public launch event, MMC was able to identify 67 new prospect assignments and another 108 follow up calls with potential donors were scheduled. Her efforts around the campaign launch led to 11,000 views of the campaign announcement video, over 2,000 views of a personal video message from President George W. Bush in support of the campaign, and more than 3,000 unique visitors to the campaign website in the first month.
From the start of my professional career, I have worked in nonprofit higher education philanthropy. When I moved to Maine in 2015, I had my heart set on working for Maine Medical Center because of its positive reputation as an employer and the incredible impact the organization has on the community. Fortunately, a position opened in the philanthropy department at Maine Medical Center that has turned out to be a perfect fit. I feel very lucky to be a part of making a difference in patient and donors’ lives.
Through community events and stewardship outreach, I find it so rewarding to engage with our grateful patients, families, and loyal donors of Maine Medical Center. I am also part of a dynamic and collaborative team of hardworking and dedicated individuals, which continues to make my job fulfilling, exciting, and fun. I consistently receive praise from my superiors and colleagues who recognize and appreciate all of my efforts.
Although I hold a BA degree in interior design and an AA degree in fine art, after graduating college, I was recruited by the Vice President of Development to interview for the role of Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at my alma mater. It was this initial opportunity that allowed me to gain great experience in nonprofit philanthropy. If I didn’t take that leap, I would not be where I am today doing work I so enjoy.
My family and friends – they encourage and inspire me to be my best self.
First and foremost, my advice would be to stay focused on the purpose of healthcare philanthropy – Keep the patients and donors at the forefront. But also, to take time to enjoy your position because a nice part of healthcare philanthropy is meeting different types of people from all walks of life though social events and networking.
