2022 40 Under 40 Winners

Brad has grown the Cleveland Clinic’s Central Development team from seven gift officers raising $12.2M in 2017 to 11 raising $58.5M in 2021.

Since 2017, his team has nearly tripled the number of new donors making their first gift of at least $25K+ from 33 to 88 in 2021.

Brad earned both a Master of Public Affairs in Nonprofit Management at Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs and a Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies at Indiana University's School of Philanthropy.

He gives back to the profession by serving as an active member of the Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy’s Alumni Board, presenting educational sessions for the AFP Greater Cleveland chapter, and authoring an article published in AHP’s Healthcare Philanthropy journal in fall 2018.

I was fortunate to be recruited to the Cleveland Clinic over nine years ago as a frontline development officer, which was my entry into healthcare philanthropy after receiving graduate degrees both in philanthropy and nonprofit management at Indiana University.

Early on as a student and entry level professional, my time at various nonprofits exposed me to the critical need for fundraising and how much I enjoyed connecting with donors. While at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, I met a philanthropy executive from a major hospital who inspired me to jump into healthcare philanthropy as he shared about his rewarding experiences in the field. He took the time out of his busy schedule to mentor and guide me.

After a few years as an individual contributor focused on major gifts fundraising for our cardiovascular program, I was given the opportunity at Cleveland Clinic to build and manage a new national team of gift officers. It required me to step out of my comfort zone and learn new leadership skills and has been an incredibly enriching experience managing the team's growth.

My greatest passion is to live a life marked by serving others and modeling this behavior to my children.  A career in healthcare philanthropy allows me to do this daily by supporting our partners in giving back towards medical research and improving the patient experience, which impacts the lives of future and current patients.

Healthcare is incredibly dynamic requiring lots of flexibility, especially over the past few years. My advice is to embrace the changing landscape and to always look for new ways to engage with your partners and leaders.
