Q & A

1. How did you get into healthcare philanthropy?

I was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan. Almost three years ago, McLaren Greater Lansing announced that they would be building a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital adjacent to Michigan State University's campus. I knew the impact this investment would have on our community, and I got excited as I learned more about the project. I had an opportunity to meet the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation Vice President and knew this would be an exciting time to dive into healthcare philanthropy.

2. Tell us about a pivot point or crucial step in your career journey.

Most of my professional career has been in politics. I worked with organizations that wanted legislation moved in the Michigan Legislature and raised money for political candidates up and down the ballot. After more than ten years in the political field, I was ready to make a change. Jumping from politics to healthcare philanthropy was certainly a major pivot, but one I am so grateful that I made a few years ago.

3. What piece of advice would you give aspiring 40 Under 40 recipients?

Don't give up. I've faced challenges in my career, and while I may have not always made the right decision in the moment, I have learned from every experience along the way. Create goals for yourself because being able to check them off only helps motivate you to do more.
